What's With Bob - Episode 6

Use the audio player below to listen to Bob address his Boss’s questions.

Hey Boss, Bob here.  I want to address those questions you asked me when we ran into each other down on the floor this morning.

Like any new program, or expansion into a new area, you always start off discovering problems with your machinery that you didn’t know you had.  Many new suppliers in the market boast about having saved their Customers a ton of money in the first 4 months using technology that takes time to come up to speed.  It’s like that old expression says, “in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!”  You never see what you don’t look for so of course the first time you look you’ll probably find something!  Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and again.  With ATS and their experience with all kinds of machinery, existing problems on newly monitored machines are identified on Day 1 by their mechanically experienced analysts.

Right.  But my question to potential supplier/partners has always been:  Why does it take months to achieve that positive ROI, particularly when they proclaim super scientific technology is supporting them?

(The Plant Manager is speaking to Bob)

Well, I hope our competitors don’t hear this, but the main reason why we’ve been so successful keeping maintenance costs down and production up is having ATS develop and support our program.  We got positive ROI the very day that the program started with the things they identified to us.  It’s because the team at ATS are what I like to think of as Machine whisperers.  First and foremost, they understand machinery at the gut level, from the internal components, how they are put together and how the whole thing is supposed to run.  Like Superman with his X-Ray vision they use multiple appropriate technologies to look at and listen to an operating machine and visualize what’s going on inside.  That’s the key to understanding what’s going wrong when their data says there’s a problem.  It’s the combination of both technology and hands-on mechanical experience that enables ATS to help us take the right action at the appropriate time, before things go catastrophic.

Great, thanks, Boss.  Talk more later!  Bye for now.
